5 possible Luton Town January transfer arrivals
Beating last season’s January transfer window will take some doing, with Elijah Adebayo and Kal Naismith touching down at Kenilworth Road at the midway point of last campaign.
It is safe to say that that the aforementioned duo have gone on to play starring roles in our team this season, with their quality shining through on Sunday against Harrogate Town.
It remains to be seen how busy this month might get for us, but if the opening exchanges are anything to go by, then it could be a relatively quiet period.
Here, I take a look at five possible players who could arrive in Bedfordshire, should the Hatters enter the transfer market…
Jordan Jones
The Hatters have been linked with a move for Wigan Athletic winger Jordan Jones, according to TEAMtalk.
The 27-year-old is also being chased by Barnsley, Blackpool, Derby County and Reading, with game time limited for the winger at Wigan.
Jones can also operate as a number 10, with versatility often crucial when it comes to Nathan Jones’ recruitment.
However, his inability to pave his way for regular contention in League One makes his signature rather unlikely.
Elliot Anderson
Luton missed out on the signing of Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson in the summer, with the Chronicle Live reporting that Steve Bruce wanted to keep him at the Premier League club.
The report that was published on August 31 stated that the Hatters could come back again for the 19-year-old in January.
A Chronicle Live article from this month has now expressed that multiple EFL clubs are after his signature.
It remains to be seen if we are one of those clubs, with the attacking-inclined midfielder impressing within the club’s U23s.
Christian Walton
Another window and another mention of the name Christian Walton.
Given the fact that Simon Sluga’s contract at Kenilworth Road is ticking down (option of an extra year), we may feel that it is time to add a bit of certainty to our goalkeeping department.
Walton, who started the season with Ipswich Town, has been in good form for the Tractor Boys this season, winning the hearts of many in Suffolk.
However, a report from the East Anglian Daily Times claims that Brighton have recalled him.
With just six months remaining on his current deal at Brighton, and the fact that he is nowhere near first-team contention at the Amex Stadium, the Premier League outfit could be waiting to hear offers.
Cameron Archer
A poll ran by Luton Today revealed that Luton fans would prefer to see a striker join the club this January over any other position.
Of course, this would not come at the detriment of Elijah Adebayo, instead, it would most likely be to partner the 24-year-old.
Cameron Archer is one of the most exciting talent coming through the academy system in the Premier League at the moment, with the Aston Villa forward impressing with the club’s U23s.
The Daily Mail have credited Championship clubs Preston North End and Derby County with an interest in the young forward, whilst Sunderland, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic are also in pursuit.
Josh Key
Our ability and continued success of plucking lower league players out of seemingly nowhere make us a club who are willing to take a risk.
In this situation, the risk would be Exeter City right-back Josh Key.
The 22-year-old has once again established himself as an integral member of the League Two outfit’s starting XI this season, operating as a wing-back.
Chipping in with two goals and an assist, Key is proving to be a real threat in the final third, whilst possessing the defensive skill-set to match.
Given his age, he has an incredibly high ceiling and can continue on the upward trajectory he finds himself on.
