Anderson, Pepple and Neufville: Luton Town transfer and rumour tracker

Luton Town begin the new Championship campaign with a home fixture against Birmingham City in a little over two weeks.

The Hatters, who were edged out of the second-tier play-offs during the 2021/22 season, will be striving for further improvement.

Adding real quality into the squad already, with the likes of Luke Freeman, Alfie Doughty, Cauley Woodrow and Carlton Morris touching down at Kenilworth Road, it remains to be seen how much further business, if any, will be conducted before the end of August deadline.

Here is a round-up of the latest transfer and rumour news concerning the Hatters...

Potential in: Elliot Anderson

It is not the first time that the Bedfordshire club have been linked with a move for exciting Newcastle United talent Elliot Anderson, with a recent report from The Athletic continuing to credit Luton with interest.

The report named five clubs as interested parties, with Stoke City and West Brom of the Championship included, whilst Bristol Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday are also reportedly considering a move.

Anderson enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Gas last season on loan, returning very impressive numbers.

Potential in: Matt Smith

The Hatters are also reportedly casting their eyes over Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith, as per a report from The Sun, with Millwall also in pursuit.

The report states that there is lots of Championship interest at this point, although it is just the Lions and the Hatters whose interest has been revealed.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, featuring 43 times for the Yorkshire club who were eventually relegated to League Two.

Potential incoming update: Aribim Pepple

Luton were first credited with an interest in Aribim Pepple last week, with a report from Football Insider that the Championship club were in advanced talks after edging past in Forest Green Rovers in a race for his signature.

An update on this situation from Canadian outlet Northern Tribune has revealed that the 19-year-old, who has netted six goals in his first seven games of the Canadian Premier League, has been granted "overseas leave by Cavalry FC.

It remains to be seen if Pepple is to arrive at Kenilworth Road this summer and what the immediate next step will be.

Loan out: Josh Neufville

After a productive loan spell with Yeovil Town last time out, Hatters youngster Josh Neufville has now been handed an opportunity in the Football League with Sutton United.

The 21-year-old, who has managed to return in exciting form after an injury halted his progress last season, joins the League Two outfit on a season-long loan.

The versatile attacking option can operate on the wing or as a number nine and will be hoping to impress Matt Gray during what remains of pre-season.
