Getting to know Cody Drameh - The wing back expected to join Luton Town

Luton Town have been reported to have won the 5 way battle for highly rated Cody Drameh, who will most likely replace Southampton bound James Bree at the right wing back position for Luton Town. Drameh, who is currently Leeds Uniteds' third choice right back, with the evergreen Luke Ayling and versatile new Danish signing Rasmus Kristensen standing in his path to the first team. Luton have beaten out Cardiff, Preston, Swansea and FC Copenhagen with earlier reports suggesting that both Burnley and Watford had already made an approach for 21 year old , who will be entering the last 12 months of his current Leeds contract at the end of this season.

It is quite a coup signing Drameh, even if it is a stop gap to the Summer transfer window, as it was reported in December that European clubs Dortmund, Leipzig as well as Premier League clubs Newcastle, West Ham and Crystal Palace were trying to land the explosive right back. It is highly likely that we will be seeing lots of scouts down at Kenilworth Road observing Cody, as well as some of our other players for the remainder of the season. Cody Drameh was born in Dulwich, London and scooped up to the Fulham Academy playing football at U18 level, before transferring to the Leeds Academy in 2020. Prior to his Leeds move he had already represented England at U18 level, and has since represented his country at U20 and U21 levels. In the 2021/22 season he played for Leeds 3 times in the Premier League and twice in the cup competitions before being loaned out to Cardiff City for the second half of the season. He made quite the impression in Wales, having played 22 games for the Bluebirds, yet scooping both the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards. You can view highlights of his time at Cardiff here.

Since returning to Leeds this season, he has primarily played on the bench, having featured in the first team once this season, during the 5-2 loss to Brentford, although he was one of the few Leeds players to escape that game with any credibility. To conclude, Cody Drameh is a highly rated wing back who will ably replace James Bree at the right wing back position, although the question remains that once Bree leaves, does this leave us short of cover at the right centre back position that James Bree has deputised so often this season so far?
