Luton Town transfer and rumour tracker: Serie A bidding war for Ed McJannet
Luton's Republic of Ireland youth international, Ed McJannet, is currently flying out to Italy to discuss terms on a transfer to Serie A according to Football Insider on twitter.
It was Football Insider who originally reported that Sassuolo had bid for the u19 international and they are now reporting that fellow Serie A club Lecce have joined the bidding process.
Was a move to happen for the recently injured youngster, he would join a spate of other Irish youngsters who have been snapped up by Italian clubs in recent times.
He would be the sixth teenager from the Republic to have joined a Serie A club in the last couple of years, joining Cathal Heffernan and Kevin Zefi who both moved to Milan (joining AC & Inter respectively), John Ryan who left UCD for Sassuolo and both James Abankwah and Festy Ebosele who went to Udinese.
Liam Kerrigan has also joined Serie B club, Como, as Italian clubs see Irish youngsters as an exploitable market as, unlike their British compatriots, they do not count as non-eu players. Whereas, with British clubs, Irish youngsters do count as non-British.
