Luton Town vs Millwall: Opposition View

Luton Town welcome Millwall to Kenilworth Road on Sunday morning in what is Rob Edwards' first game in charge of the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.

Ahead of Sunday's clash, ORH spoke to Nick Hart of Achtung! Millwall Podcast to find out a little more about the opposition...

Tell us a little about your Millwall supporting history!

I’ve been a Lions supporter since 1972. Some 50 years now of highs, lows and mediocrity. I wouldn’t have it any other way though!

How would you assess the start to the season?

Millwall this season have promised much, but have lacked the consistency to really threaten as play-off contenders. Our main problem has been goal scoring, but to be honest we come up short far too often away from The Den.

It appeared to be a summer of strengthening - How have your new additions got on?

The undoubted star of the Millwall show at the moment is Zian Flemming. The Dutch master signed for a club record fee of £1.7m from Fortuna Sittard in the summer and has proven to be worth every penny. There’a debate around The Den as to whether we depend too much on ‘star’ turns eg the dearly departed Jed Wallace and now the Dutch master Flemming. But right now we’ll take his goals and leave the football philosophy to the end of the season.

Millwall have proven to be a resilient defensive unit over the years - How have the Lions performed as a defensive unit so far?

At times this campaign we’ve looked more fragile than has traditionally been the case. Manager Gary Rowett has been forced to change from a 3-5-2 to 4-2-3-1 which has improved defensive matters, but Rowett’s decision to favour goalkeeper George Long over Bart Bialkowski hasn’t gained him friends nor a dramatically stronger defence.

What have you made of Luton so far this season?

Luton are always an awkward side to face and last term we drew 2-2 at Kenilworth Rd, a draw again would be seen as decent result for us. - Score prediction! - 1-1 draw.
