Oak Road Hatter: Transfer Rumour Tracker

Welcome to the first edition of the Oak Road Hatter: Transfer Rumour Tracker, where we will compile all the rumours that have gone around this week linking Luton Town, who are the latest addition to the Premier League, to various players who might be looking to make a move this Summer.

Who has been linked so far?

The rumour mill started cranking out stories early this Summer, just one day after Luton Town confirmed their participation in the top flight for the first time since 1991/92, with the good folk at Sports World Ghana, linking Andre Ayew to Luton Town.

The 33 year old Ghanaian was snapped up by Nottingham Forest on a short term deal in the winter window, with Forest in the midst of a striker injury crisis, they were hoping for Ayew to score some goals. However, Ayew only started 1 game, with a further 12 matches from the bench. Playing a total of 307 minutes, averaging 23 minutes per appearance. The general consensus amongst the fanbase is that Ayew does not fit the profile of what we would be looking for in the top flight, and his wages will most likely be prohibitively high. The next day it was reported by Fabrizio Romano, that Luton Town are doing everything they can in order to sign Cody Drameh on permanent terms.

The flying right wing back only has 12 months left on his deal with newly relegated Leeds. However, it has also been reported that Burnley are also in the race for Drameh, and would be able to offer him a better salary. However, going to Burnley would mean competition in the form of Connor Roberts, who was one of the best players in the Championship last season. In addition to this, in the January transfer window, Drameh was linked to Borussia Dortmund, there is a chance that German clubs start sniffing around again this Summer.

However, there is a strong chance that Cody Drameh decides to join Luton considering he had a good time here, over 19 appearances, contributing 2 assists and creating 25 chances, becoming an instant fan favourite. Likelihood of this happening 👒👒👒/👒👒👒👒👒

Later that day, The Athletic correspondent Dan Bardell reported that Aston Villa are keen to secure a fee for Marvelous Nakamba, as he is low down the pecking order and they are keen to get his wages off the books. Luton Town were paying half of Marv's salary in the 2022/23 season, but we are now in a better financial position and should be able to pay his full salary now, or at least rework it so it fits into our wage structure.

This would be a very popular deal to get over the line, the fanbase would be delighted to see Marv join us on a permanent basis, and from his speech at the St. George's Square parade, it seems that he is also keen, as he has enjoyed his time at the Kenny. During the course of his 20 games, Marv won 36 tackles, with 9 clearances and 16 interceptions.

Now for a rumour that the Luton Town fanbase are absolutely clamouring for. The Daily Express reported that the Hatters are lining up an ambitious bid for former loanee Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The Leicester midfielder has become a key member in the engine room at the King Power stadium, but was unable to prevent Leicester from getting relegated. It's likely that he will stick around, as Youri Tielemans has left the club and James Maddison is the next player likely out the door, and he would be the ideal player for Leicester to build a team capable of maintaining a promotion push around, as he is one of the few players in that squad that has played in the Championship. in the 2022/23 season, he contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in his 28 starts, creating a further 39 chances from a deep lying midfield position. One issue with securing KDH would be the amount that Leicester are looking for, some reports suggest they value him at £25m, and he only signed new terms with them midway through last season.

Now for a rumour that has split the fanbase straight down the middle. 2022/23 loanee Ethan Horvath has been reported by The Athletic to potentially be in the recruitment teams crosshairs, as there is an option in his loan agreement with Nottingham Forest to make the loan permanent.

The reason why this has split the fanbase so much, is because although the USMNT stopper has 19 clean sheets to his name in the 2022/23 season with Luton Town, the general consensus amongst the fanbase is that a lot of the hard work was undertaken by the team in front of him. It is apparent that the team has done a good job defending the box, with Luton Town exhibiting the second lowest xG conceded in the division (chances given to the opposition), only bettered by our promotion buddies, Burnley. It has been stated by The Athletic that a number of European clubs are looking at Horvath too, and it's likely that Nottingham Forest are willing to sell at a low price to get his wages off the books, and make space for their reported £20m signing of Dean Henderson from Manchester United.
