Simon Sluga, Alex Palmer, Ollie Tanner: Luton Town transfer tracker

Deadline Day is fast-approaching, and despite the January transfer window being a relatively quiet one thus far, a lot could happen in the concluding stages.

Last January proved to be an excellent month for us, with Kal Naismith arriving at Kenilworth Road, whilst Elijah Adebayo put pen to paper on a deal on Deadline Day.

Nathan Jones has made a big point on only entering the market if he firmly believes that a certain player will genuinely improve us, making any new arrivals exciting prospects.

Here, we take a look at the latest on the transfer front ahead of tomorrow’s closure of the window…

Simon Sluga

Luton’s interest in Alex Palmer almost immediately came after it was reported on talkSPORT that Simon Sluga is close to leaving us.

Sluga’s contract is set to expire in the summer, although it is understood that we do have the option of extending his stay for a further year.

Sluga arrived at Kenilworth Road as a record signing in 2019, and after his immediate struggles, he has gone on to put some excellent performances in and has made some vital saves in the process.

Peter Kioso

Peter Kioso was left out of the squad yesterday, and with James Bree seemingly hitting the best form of his Luton career thus far, it remains to be seen what could happen.

When news emerged that he had been recalled, Toby Lock of the MK Citizen reported that there was potential for the full-back to return to Stadium MK.

However, a further Twitter Update from Lock suggests that the League One outfit are moving on.

Kioso has impressed since returning, however, it would be very difficult to consistently edge Bree out of the side at present.

Alex Palmer

West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer is set to join us, as reported by Alex Crook of TalkSPORT on Twitter.

The 25-year-old find himself as a third choice with the Baggies, but with Sam Johnstone absent, he was named on the bench during yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at Millwall.

Palmer spent last season on loan with Lincoln City, playing every single minute of the Imps’ play-off-sealing campaign.

Keeping 19 clean sheets, Palmer proved to be a big hit amongst the Lincoln support.

Ollie Tanner

Lower league recruitment has long been a successful strategy for the Hatters and it appears that we are casting our eyes in England’s seventh tier.

A report from the Athletic earlier today suggested that we are keen on 19-year-old Lewes winger Ollie Tanner.

The report states that Tottenham Hotspur have failed in their pursuit of the exciting non-league prospect, whilst Southampton and Cardiff City are also in the running.

Hatters youngster Casey Pettit embarked on a loan spell with Lewes earlier this month, with it remaining to be seen whether conversations started then.

Elliot Anderson

Elliot Anderson is a player that has been linked with us for what seems like a lifetime.

We held interest last January, narrowly missed out on a move in the summer, and The Athletic reported a couple of weeks ago that we were closing in on a move.

Jones then confirmed our interest in Anderson but stated we were not too close in agreeing a deal with the Premier League outfit.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has now revealed that Anderson has stayed in the UK when the rest of the squad headed out to Saudi Arabia, with the former Bournemouth boss citing the possibility of a temporary move away as to why he remained.
