Luton Town transfer rumour tracker: Lyle Taylor and Scottish duo

Luton Town are currently on the search for Nathan Jones’ successor following the Welshman’s departure for Southampton last week.

A big blow of course, it has provided the Hatters to head in somewhat of a new direction whilst building on the foundations left by the 49-year-old.

It remains to be seen who will be tasked with taking charge for what remains of this Championship campaign and how that might impact transfer plans.

The Hatters have proven to be excellent when it comes to recruitment in recent windows, with the combination of a data-driven and a traditional approach bringing about gems such as Allan Campbell and Elijah Adebayo.

Here, we take a look at any transfer rumours that have surfaced between the closure of the summer transfer window and where we find ourselves now.

Max Johnston

Succeeding when last using the Scottish market, the Hatters may look to strike again with 18-year-old Max Johnston on the Championship club’s radar.

A report from the Daily Record in March first credited the Bedfordshire club with an interest in the Motherwell full-back, who is currently on loan at Cove Rangers, with talk then fizzling away when summer came about.

Last week, a further report from the Daily Record claimed that Luton officials were in attendance as Cove ran out as winners at Queens Park.

The right-back has featured eight times for the Scottish Championship club this season, contributing with two assists in that time.

Ryan Porteous

Sticking on the theme of Scottish defenders that Luton have recently been linked with, Ryan Porteous is another name supposedly on the radar.

As detailed in a report from the Daily Record, the Hatters are interested in the Hibernian and Scotland defender, however, they are set to face competition from the likes of Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City.

The 23-year-old has started every game for the Scottish outfit in the league this season, with the centre-back being tasked with operating within a back three and a solid back four.

Lyle Taylor

Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor is pushing for a move when January comes around, Football League World has claimed.

The report states that Birmingham City, Luton and Millwall have all shown somewhat of an interest, whilst the MLS is also an option for the experienced striker.

A player that does like a goal against the Hatters, it is likely that he would only be a consideration if a forward was to depart in January, indicating that this is forward-thinking from Luton.
