Luton Town transfer rumour tracker part 7: Stewart, Mendes Gomes and Giles update

Luton Town are continuing to make impressive strides in the summer transfer window but there is still work to be done as the Hatters continue their pre-season preparations.

It is now five players who have completed moves to Kenilworth Road ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, whilst there are still a few positions that seemingly need bolstering.

Rob Edwards’ side will be eager for the Premier League campaign begin but it remains to be seen how that starting XI will look like when Luton make the trip down to Brighton in two weeks.

Here, we take a look at the latest transfer news concerning the Hatters…

Ross Stewart

Sunderland striker Ross Stewart, who notched 10 goals in 13 league appearances last time out in an injury-stricken campaign for the Black Cats, is reportedly on the club's radar.

According to a report from the Northern Echo, the Hatters, as well as Stoke City, have been keeping an eye on the Scotsman who only has a year left on his current deal.

A competitive, physical front man who has quite an impressive scoring record for the Wearside club, it remains to be seen if anything progresses here.

Josef Martinez

In a rather interesting report from The Sun, the Hatters have reported interest in Inter Miami striker Josef Martinez.

As detailed in the report, the American outfit would likely hold out for a figure around the £10 million mark, with the Hatters not yet considering a bid anywhere near that valuation.

The Venezuelan international held a rather impressive goalscoring record at Atlanta United, netting 111 goals in 158 outings for the MLS club, before a move to Florida came about earlier in the year.

Tom Heaton update

Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton is a name that has been mentioned in association with newly-promoted Luton Town for a long proportion of this summer transfer window.

With things going rather quiet as the Premier League giants assessed their goalkeeping options, they have now picked up again.

According to The Sun, Luton have been waiting for the green light to complete the signing of the 37-year-old, with Andre Onana's move to Old Trafford perhaps paving the way for the Bedfordshire club to get Heaton in.

Carlos Mendes Gomes

The vast majority of transfer rumours concerning the Hatters thus far have been potential incomings, but in order to add Premier League quality, there will have to be outgoings.

According to reporter Alan Nixon via his Patreon channel, Luton winger Carlos Mendes Gomes is subject to a £300,000 bid from League One club Bolton Wanderers.

It remains to be seen what stance will be taken by the Hatters and what the immediate future holds for the 24-year-old.

Ryan Giles

In what could be a rather fast-moving transfer, Luton hold strong interest in Wolves defender Ryan Giles.

The latest update in the Hatters' pursuit of the left-back comes from the Daily Mail's Tom Collomosse who has claimed that Luton are growing increasingly confident that they will be able to beat Middlesbrough to the signing of the 23-year-old.

It is also claimed in this latest update that the fee will be around £5 million.
