Luton Town reportedly cast eyes over a second Middlesbrough player

Luton Town are reportedly showing an interest in versatile Middlesbrough player Paddy McNair.

Football League World have claimed that the 28-year-old is a player of interest to the recruitment team at Kenilworth Road, as it remains to be seen how high up he ranks in the Premier League club's priority list.

It was also claimed by FLW a couple of weeks ago that the Hatters are also admirers of Boro talisman Chuba Akpom.

Middlesbrough were fellow playoff contenders last season but fell short in the semi-finals, like Luton back during the 2021/2022 season. Coming off the back of a successful season considering the circumstances, Michael Carrick will look to add to his squad for another season in the Championship that kicks off in just a few months, hoping to go one step further. Adding to his squad will come at a price however, meaning that he will have to sell some players to fund new purchases.

Luton Town hold an interest in Middlesbrough's Paddy McNair

This is where Luton comes into play as they have shown an interest in versatile defender/midfielder Paddy McNair. Rob Edwards will need to add to his squad as the Hatters make a huge step up to the Premier League and the 28-year-old runs out of contract in 12 months so Boro will want to sell him for a fee which would fund their new transfer targets, otherwise, they could lose him for free next summer.

McNair made 34 appearances in last season's campaign, mostly in defence and he could bring valuable experience to Kenilworth Road as he has already featured in the Premier League 33 times with appearances for both Manchester United and Sunderland. Along with this, he is a capped International and has made 49 appearances for Northern Ireland, two of those appearances coming in the recent European Championship qualifiers.

With Sonny Bradley departing and a new contract still yet to be confirmed for Gabe Osho, Luton will certainly need to bring in another centre-back this window and McNair could be a brilliant option for the upcoming season, whether he'd start over Amari'i Bell, Osho, Tom Lockyer and Reece Burke is another question though.
