Luton Town transfer rumour tracker part 6: Cannon, Begovic, Kaminski and Chong updates

There is now a month until Luton Town make the trip down to Brighton & Hove Albion for their opening game of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Rob Edwards has welcomed two fresh faces to Kenilworth Road thus far and it is likely that there will be a fair bit of further business as this summer transfer window progresses.

Whilst we wait for the rest of the summer to play out, here, we take a look at the latest transfer rumours involving the Premier League newcomers...

Latest on Luton Town's pursuit of Asmir Begovic

When looking at the transfer rumours that have surfaced thus far and consider the current squad at Edwards' disposal, adding a goalkeeper or two would seemingly be a priority.

The Hatters have been linked with several shot-stoppers thus far, however, it has appeared that former Chelsea, Everton and AC Milan goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is high up on the priority list.

Despite the goalkeeper reportedly being in 'advanced contract talks' with Town, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that QPR are now set to sign the Bosnian international.

Everton edge closer to winning the race for Luton target

Everton are set to win the race for former Aston Villa, Manchester United and Inter Milan player Ashley Young.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Young will sign for the Toffees after he completes a medical with the Merseyside outfit.

TalkSPORT credited Luton Town with an interest in the free agent but it would appear that the 38-year-old will be plying his trade at Goodison Park during the upcoming season.

Blackburn Rovers reject approaches from Luton Town

It was reported earlier in the window that Luton hold an interest in Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

A report from Alan Nixon claimed that the Hatters had the Belgian goalkeeper, as well as Huddersfield Town's Lee Nicholls on a list of targets.

The latest report from Nixon has suggested that the Bedfordshire club have had two bids rejected by Rovers, with both figures standing below the £1 million mark.

Since then, the Lancashire Telegraph has revealed that the Championship outfit are after a £3-4 million.

Luton set for transfer battle with Sunderland and Preston North End

Luton are reportedly keen on a move for Everton starlet Tom Cannon, who spent last season on loan at Preston North End.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon channel, the 20-year-old is being considered by the Hatters, whilst his former temporary employers (Preston) and Sunderland are also in pursuit.

As detailed in the report, the Black Cats are preparing a £3 million bid for the exciting striker who netted eight times in 20 appearances for the Lilywhites during the second half of last season.

Birmingham City player edges close to completing Luton Town move

Luton Town have moved a step closer in securing the services of Birmingham City attacker Tahith Chong.

As per an update from the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (13:30), the 23-year-old is set for a medical with the Premier League newcomers.

The update also suggests that the fee will be around the £4 million mark, which would see Chong arrive as the club's record signing.

However, German journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that it will be a £5 million initial fee, whilst that figure could rise up to £10 million with various add-ons.

Luton's interest in the former Manchester United man was first reported by Football Insider about a month ago.
