Premier League Gameweek 2 Preview: Chelsea v Luton Town

Date: 25th August 2023

Kick-off: 8pm (BST)

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Luton take on Chelsea in the today at Stamford Bridge, we should anticipate a scintillating showdown as both teams are eager to secure their first win, setting the stage for a thrilling opening spectacle. Today we look at how the Hatters could lineup.

Team News and Oak Road Hatters Predicted XI:

Injury news: Clark, Osho, Potts.

The goalkeeping situation seems quite straightforward at the moment. Kaminski, despite conceding four goals against Brighton, left a positive impression. However, he'll face stiff competition from the new arrival, Tim Krul.

When it comes to the left-back position, Doughty, despite his impressive showing against Brighton, loses out to Giles. His prowess in dead-ball situations could be a massive asset, especially in a game where we anticipate being on the defensive more often than not. Bell and Lockyer, despite a challenging debut two weeks ago, are clear starters in the XI.

However, the third defensive position isn't as clear-cut. Andersen appeared uncomfortable in the wider centre-back role against BHAFC, and with Reece Burke returning from injury, a natural fit for the wide centre-back position, he'll likely step in.

Nakamba is a definite starter in midfield, but deciding his partner isn't so easy. Ross Barkley, having been in training since before the Brighton match, could make a return to his former stomping ground. Chong, though occasionally lacking defensively, showcased his remarkable on-the-ball skills. At ORH, we believe the definite choices are Pelly and Marv, with Barkley likely to start alongside them.

Upfront, there were discussions regarding the front two. Jacob Brown left a strong impression last week with his cameo off the bench. Two of us favour Brown to start, while the other two opt for Adebayo. In the end, we decided to give Elijah the nod, although he must acknowledge the pressure to perform with Brown eagerly waiting for his chance. Morris, who delivered an incredible performance against Brighton, once again partners with Eli upfront.

Starting XI: Kaminski, Giles, Bell, Lockyer, Burke, Kabore, Nakamba, Pelly, Barkley, Morris, Adebayo.
