Why Bolton Wanderers move might be ideal for Luton Town attacker Carlos Mendes Gomes

Bolton Wanderers are set to make a £300,000 offer for 24-year-old Luton Town forward Carlos Mendes Gomes as reported by Alan Nixon on his patreon account.

The Spaniard spent the 2022/2023 season on a year-long loan at League One team Fleetwood Town scoring 7 goals and 2 assists in 32 starts in the league for the Cod Army, proving his talent in the third division of English football.

Carlos Mendes Gomes' situation at Luton Town

Mendes Gomes has made 15 appearances for the Hatters, the majority falling in cup games. The 24-year-old was a signing made under previous management of Nathan Jones where he joined from freshly promoted Morecambe FC for an undisclosed fee after helping the shrimps to promotion to League One.

Once joining Luton Town, the forward never really broke into the first team under Jones' management and once Rob Edwards was brought in, the forward was already out on loan at Fleetwood. The past two years has shown that the 2021 addition from Morecambe still hasn't established himself at Kenilworth Road and has not been able to show his very best.

Now with the club playing Premier League football for the first time in their history, the hatters will be looking to improve upon their current squad and it looks apparent that Mendes Gomes isn't a part of Rob Edwards' plans with new attacking signings such as Chiedozie Ogbene who plays a very similar position to the Spaniard.

Would Mendes Gomes be a good signing for Bolton Wanderers?

Bolton Wanderers met defeat in their EFL play-off semi-final encounter against Barnsley, losing 2-1 on aggregate, meaning next season, the Trotters will be looking to push on further with promotion to the Championship and they will be looking to strengthen their squad to push for automatic promotion.

Once again, the-24 year-old has proven himself at League One level with his performances at Fleetwood Town, Impressing Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt who is now looking to sign the forward for a fee of £300,000 from the now Premier League club Luton Town.

The price tag that Bolton wanders have set for Gomes would be a steal for a player of his talent. The Spaniard would heavily improve Bolton's depth and skill in the squad, and could be that push the team needs for promotion.

A player with bundles of creativity, attacking drive, and as evidenced during his time with Fleetwood and Morecambe, end-product, he could be a top signing for a club as ambitious as Bolton.

Not only that, he still has a high ceiling and if he is able to succeed with the Trotters, should a move come to fruition, you would back him to impress in the Championship, at a club that would likely provide him with more of an opportunity.
