Luton Town attacker catches the eye of Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich Town

Rumours concerning Luton Town have picked up over recent days as the January transfer window nears its halfway point.

The Hatters are yet to add and whilst they are positioned rather well when considering the strength of the squad, there is still an expectation that at least a couple new players will be welcomed.

As per an exclusive report from HITC, the Hatters are mulling over cutting John McAtee's loan spell at Barnsley short, upon learning of Championship interest in the 24-year-old.

The versatile attacker has enjoyed a productive loan stint at Oakwell during the first half of the campaign and has been particularly influential over the last couple of months.

As detailed in HITC's report, there are four second-tier outfits keen on McAtee, Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle.

McAtee arrived at Kenilworth Road in the summer of 2022, following what was a sensational campaign for Grimsby Town in the National League.

The 24-year-old, whose younger brother James featured against the Hatters for Sheffield United on Boxing Day, is yet to feature competitively for Town but caught Rob Edwards' eye during a productive pre-season.

It is an interesting dilemma for Luton to ponder over, as he is currently thriving at the top-end of League One and a move to the Championship could elevate his development, however, it could also lead to a lack of game time and McAtee seeing his progress halted.
