Luton Town transfer rumour tracker part 8: Heaton, Davis, Smallbone, Mejbri and Kaminski

Luton Town have been busy so far this window, signing six players at the time of writing, including the recent acquisition of Wolves wing-back Ryan Giles. Many players have left as well, such as Fred Onyedinma, Elliot Thorpe, Carlos Mendes-Gomes and Jack Walton. The squad has been strengthened efficiently so far, but there are still a few players needed, most notably in the goalkeeping position.

There should still be a couple more signings to add on, and here, we take a look at the latest individuals who have been linked with a move to the Bedfordshire club.

Tom Heaton move looking unlikely

According to Talksport chief football correspondent Alex Crook, Heaton will stay at Manchester United this summer. Perhaps United's failure to secure a deal for a replacement backup keeper has had an impact. It appears Luton will have to look elsewhere for a keeper, especially because the new season starts in just two weeks.

Hatters considering Keinan Davis

Adam Leventhal from The Athletic has linked Luton with a move for the 25 year old striker Keinan Davis. The forward spent last season on loan at Watford, where he scored 7 goals, one of which came in the derby defeat. It is thought the fee would cost between £4m and £7m, if Luton choose to pursue a deal. He would become the second signing from Aston Villa this summer, but even with the price mentioned there is no guarantee he walks into the starting team. A very divisive but intriguing rumour.

Luton to look at Smallbone

Will Smallbone is the latest midfield option to be linked to the Hatters. The young Irish international is very highly rated, and Luton will face competition should they choose to pursue a move for him. Linked by the Daily Mail, Smallbone would be a shrewd signing to add more depth in midfield, but the amount of competition for his signature may make a deal unlikely.

Hannibal Mejbri to link up with Chong?

Hannibal Mejbri is another midfielder Luton are linked to, as per an update from Tunisian football page Noussour TN and he played alongside new Hatters signing Tahith Chong last season, for Birmingham on loan. This move would likely be a loan signing, and Man United would expect Luton to give Hannibal plenty of gametime. Again, not a move with a high chance of happening, although it is interesting the amount of links to midfielders, even since we signed Chong and Nakamba.

Thomas Kaminski deal back on?

Following Luton's failed attempts to sign Tom Heaton, Luton could reportedly go back in for Blackburn keeper Thomas Kaminski. Alan Nixon and Talskport have previously claimed Luton have an interest in the 30 year old experienced keeper. It is Nixon who has recently reported that the Hatters have reignited their Kaminski interest. Blackburn value the keeper at around £5m, which would make any move tricky.

Luton reportedly agree deal for West Brom man

According to a Twitter post from Daily Mail journalist Tom Collomosse, who was the first person to report on Luton's interest in Ryan Giles, the Hatters have had a bid accepted by West Brom for goalkeeper Alex Palmer. The 26-year-old, who has spent an extremely short time at Kenilworth Road during the 2021/22 Championship campaign on an emergency loan, emerged as one of the Championship's most impressive shot-stoppers during last season.
