Who is AFC Bournemouth midfielder and Luton Town target Ben Pearson?

It is set to be an exciting summer of transfer action at Luton Town this summer as the Hatters look forward to the upcoming Premier League campaign. Since Rob Edwards' side emerged victorious at Wembley last month, there has been no shortage of Luton-related transfer rumours.

The latest player that is reportedly attracting attention from the Bedfordshire club is AFC Bournemouth midfielder Ben Pearson, with a report from Football Insider claiming that the 28-year-old features high on the newly-promoted Premier League club's wish-list.

Pearson is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal at The Vitality Stadium and that could possibly pave the way for Luton to negotiate a favourable deal. The Cherries will likely be ambitious when it comes to the rest of this transfer window and that could work in the Hatters' favour as Edwards looks to assemble a squad that is ready for the top tier of English football.

The 28-year-old progressed through the various academy ranks at Manchester United, all whilst gaining quality experience with England at youth level.

Unable to reach the heights of first-team football with the Premier League giants, a loan move to League One club Barnsley came about during the second half of the 2014/15 campaign. Impressing enough for the Tykes to bring Pearson in again on a second loan stint in the summer of 2015, the midfielder appeared 22 times before he returned to Old Trafford.

Championship club Preston North End completed the permanent swoop for Pearson in January 2016 and he managed 31 league appearances during his first season with the Lancashire club, picking up 14 yellow cards in the process.

His yellow card record makes for quite interesting reading, with Pearson picking up more than 50 cautions in just over 150 appearances across five years at Deepdale.

A move to AFC Bournemouth came to fruition in January 2021 and the combative midfield operator appeared 16 times during the back end of the 2020/21 Championship season. Pearson was then limited to just 866 minutes of second tier action the following campaign as the Cherries confirmed their return to the Premier League.

Despite starting the first three Premier League games last time out, his game time became more and more scarce, and subsequently, a loan move to Stoke City was given the green light in January. Enjoying a productive temporary spell with the Staffordshire club, the 28-year-old featured 14 times in the second tier and in his true combative nature, accumulated seven yellow cards in the process.
